An optical illusion involves images that are sensed and perceived through the visual system and misinterpreted in the brain. Whereas the brain can process some of the attributes of the object, there are features of the object that are misleading and therefore lead to errors in the perceptual process.
Evanston resident and Northwestern University assistant professor of cognitive psychology Steve Franconeri knows all the best optical illusions. His research focuses on visual cognition, or how the way we see affects the way we learn.
Optical Illusion Essay, Research Paper What you see is not always what you get. We learn to perceive or understand what we’re looking at, and we get used to how things are supposed to be. Everyone, including pilots, is susceptible to an optical illusion. An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion) is an illusion caused by the visual system and characterized by a visual percept that arguably appears to differ from reality. Illusions come in a wide variety; their categorization is difficult because the underlying cause is often not clear (3) but a classification (1) (4) proposed by Richard Gregory is useful as an orientation.
