Thus, a sense of belonging can benefit or hinder personal development. A sense of belonging can either support or detract from our personal identity. We must make compromises to suit which direction we would like to take in our lives. While in some instances belonging may challenge identity, identity and belonging must coexist in society.
Belonging is usually defined as being accepted into and by members of a family, group, class, race, community or school.The term belonging means something different to everyone but most people will come up with the words acceptance, security and identity.In this speech I have chosen to talk about the aspects of belonging and not belonging in two of Peter Skrzynecki’s Poems, Migrant Hostel.
A sense of belonging normally emerges from the connexions and relationships made with people. individuality. topographic points and the larger universe. It is these constructs of belonging that construct the foundations. and act upon the hunt for the significance in life. and finally where persons belong.An Individual’s sense of Belonging emerges from the connections made with place and community.
